PORTRAIT OF AN UPSIDEDOWN TREE [son et lumières, commissioned for Reprocessed, Oct 2007]
A work that embodies a concept created for the nighttime event: Notte Bianca - Lejl Imdawwal, held in the public Barrakka Gardens, Valletta. This work evokes an environmental statement through the "tree" as an archetypal signification for the cycle of life. Sound, distributed in the gardens, consisted of intermittent birdsong and war jets. This was used as a metonymic device for the disruption of nature within the context of a universal disorder as a consequence of global warming and the ultimate depletion of trees.
